We asked Katie a few questions…
Name a book or blog that changed your life?
I read all the time and books are always changing my life. I’d say that ultimately, the fiction book The Hours by Michael Cunningham has most permanently changed my life. It’s a captivating story told from 3 points of view at different times in history by 3 women who are all interconnected. It reminds me always to give people grace—you don’t know what others are going through—and to try to understand human vulnerability as best you can.
Most recently, I was significantly impacted by Into Thin Air which is a treatise on how bad decision making can have insane repercussions. That hubris is still alive and well in humanity and it’s important to be humble in the presence of mother nature.
In 5 words or less, describe what has been most important to your success in your career?
Being vulnerable and knowing people.
What are you working on now? OR.. What are you most proud of in your accomplishments so far.
I’m working on bringing Design Strategy to the blockchain space–hoping to change the world through decentralization.
If you could give your 20-year-old self-advice, what would it be?
Be true to yourself and find joy in what you do and who you do it with. If you’re not psyched to get up and be a part of your own life every day, change it. You owe it to yourself to change it.
