Member Spotlight Series: Jessica Davis

Jessica Davis, Siren Vid Jessica Davis began her career as a casting associate producing talent for both established docu-series and development projects for large television networks like: National Geographic, Discovery Channel & Spike TV. In 2013, she co-founded Siren Vid, a full-service video production company that specializes in producing web-based commercial video content and currently operates the company as Executive Producer and Creative Director.

She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Digital Media and Art History from the University of Colorado Boulder.

We asked Jessica a few questions…

Name a book or blog that changed your life?

Rising Strong by Dr. Brené Brown.

One of the biggest impacts this book had on my life was that it got me journaling pretty regularly. I’ve never given myself permission to write, as she calls it, a “shitty first draft” and through writing, I feel like I’ve developed a greater sense of self.

I saw my fears and hang-ups for what they were, I saw how I was taking actions that were in response to those fears, and journaling has given me the ability to see those moments for what they are, decide to be courageous and make the right decisions that support my goals moving forward.

In 5 words or less, describe what has been most important to your success in your career?

“Do the inner work.”

This has been the biggest life-changing exercise for myself. Getting crystal clear about what I truly want to achieve in my career, and for that matter, my life. After that, it’s just making the roadmap to get there. There will be bumps along the way, but if your inner compass and destination is set, you’ll ultimately get where you want to go.

What are you working on now? OR… What are you most proud of in your accomplishments so far?

After building my video production skills with Siren Vid over the last 5 years, it’s given me the skills and confidence to take the leap with my newest venture, DreamHive, a digital media platform that focuses on activating feminine leadership as a catalyst for global change.

We’re producing an on-going series of micro-documentaries that spotlight modern day heroines that are making a radical impact on their industries, communities and the world. Each story will be paired with unique call-to-actions that encourage the audience to break the fourth-wall, connect, collaborate and accelerate the work of the film subjects. My partner, Kenya Ference and I have been working this project on the side for a little over a year now and we’re planning on launching Spring 2019!

I’m also super proud of what Mandy and I have been able to grow with SheSays Boulder over these last 5–6 years—this is such a strong community of supportive, inspiring and engaged women.

If you could give your 20-year-old self-advice, what would it be?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You have time.

Every month we spotlight an amazing woman who is part of the SheSays Boulder community. Some have shared their story as a speaker at our events. All are women who’ve inspired us with their work, heart, and vision. Want to connect with an amazing community of woman making a difference in the digital world? Follow us on MeetUp, sign up on the email list or find our next event on Event Brite and join the fun.
